JG Summit commit to six new innovation initiatives

On September 22 2023, JG Summit Holdings and 5 Ways to Innovate ran an innovation workshop focused on the topic of Commercialising Data Analytics. The workshop was attended by 8 CEOs of the group’s member companies, including Cebu Pacific Airlines, GoTyme Bank, and Robinson’s Retail. After a process of self-assessment, ideation, prioritisation and rapid prototyping, the group emerged with a commitment to six new innovation initiatives that will utilise the delivery capabilities of DAVI, the group’s data analytics service provider.

The workshop was the first of its kind in that it was run over Zoom. The logistics of the session were necessary based on the dispersed geographical location of the senior audience and scheduling difficulties in getting the group together in one physical location. Despite this barrier, the session utilised collaboration tools and the participants were successfully able to run group ideation sessions in breakout rooms - a first for many of those in attendance.

The initial workshop received an average approval rating of 86% from the C-suite participants, the highest of the series to date. Specific praise was given by the program’s ability to “match (the) approach to the overall company strategy.” Commenting on their reflections from the program, one CEO stated “There is no shortage of ideas for innovation.”

Following on from the workshop, 5 Ways to Innovate will work with the team at DAVI as well as the leadership of each company to mentor them through the process of prototyping the solutions they had prioritised. The program will represent a distinct shift in the ways of working within many of these companies, demonstrating the value of a test & learn approach rather than traditional investment cases.
